Acer at IFA Berlin 2016 has announced Acer Chromebook R 13, the industry’s first convertible Chromebook with a 13.3-inch display.

Acer Chromebook R 13 features a  13.3-inch screen that can be used in a number of different modes including as a tablet thanks to its 360-degree hinges. Up to 12 hours1 of battery life provides all-day productivity and fun. Plus, the Chromebook will provide additional capabilities thanks to planned support for Android apps via the Google Play  Store.

“The 13-inch touch display is large and vibrant, so it’s ideal for anything from homework and spreadsheets to games, video and fun apps, said James Lin, General Manager, Commercial & Detachable Notebooks, IT Products Business at Acer. “Plus, up to 12 hours of battery life means our customers can use it at school or work and continue using it into the evening for activities like homework and watching movies.”
Delivering up to 12 hours of battery life, the Chromebook R 13 gives consumers the freedom to stay productive, connected and entertained for longer. The device is powered by a MediaTek M8173C CorePilot™ quad-core processor for solid every day performance, and also connects quickly via 2×2 MIMO 802.11ac wireless technology.

The Chromebook R 13 has a USB Type-C port that allows fast data transfers, connection to a high-resolution external display, and to charge the device or provide power to other peripherals. It also includes USB 3.0, HDMI, Bluetooth 4.0, microphone and headphone jacks. Acer Chromebook R 13 will be available in several configurations, either with 64GB, 32GB or 16GB eMMC storage and 4GB of dual channel LPDDR3 SDRAM[4].

Chromebook R 13 is equipped with Acer’s patented 360-degree dual-torque hinges that allow the display to be folded back to any degree that the situation requires. The dual-torque hinges also stabilize the display when touchscreen controls are being used and while switching between four modes:

Laptop mode keeps the display at 90-degrees from the keyboard for an efficient and productive input and typing experience. Display mode bends the keyboard under the system so the display is closer to the viewer. When the Chromebook R 13 is put in this position, the on-screen image auto-rotates to the correct viewing orientation. ,Tent mode provides an ideal viewing and touch experience in confined spaces such as when traveling on a plane or train.

Storage on Google Drive protects files, documents, and photos safely in the cloud, and ensures that the most current version of the file or document is always available and safe, even if the Chromebook is lost or stolen.
